Dr. Asia Eaton is a feminist social psychologist and Professor of Psychology at Florida International University (FIU) where she serves as Director of the Applied Social and Cultural Psychology Ph.D. Program. Since 2016 Asia has also served as Head of Research for Cyber Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI), which is working to understand and end the epidemic of image-based sexual abuse. She is a nationally-recognized mentor, and considers mentoring diverse Ph.D. students in the public psychology to be her primary professional purpose. She is also a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in Divisions 9 and 35. Her recent national awards include the Distinguished Service to SPSSI Award (2024), the SSN Media Fellowship (2023), SPW’s Strickland-Daniel Mentoring Award (2022).Asia conducts quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods work exploring how gender intersects with identities such as race, sexual orientation, and class to affect individuals access to and experience with power. For example, she has published work on technology-facilitated gender-based violence, and discrimination against marginalized individuals in academic and workplace contexts. Intersectionality theory, sexual scripting, and social role theory feature prominently in my research, along with other theories relevant to privilege and oppression. Her work is also community-partnered and translational, engaging social and cultural psychological theories and methods to address real-world social problems in collaboration with local, state, and national organizations and institutions. Asia received a Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology (social), with a minor in Statistics, from the University of Chicago. She completed her undergraduate work at Carnegie Mellon University, receiving a B.S. in Psychology and a B.A. in Philosophy.
