Lo scopo del nostro lavoro è stato quello di studiare gli aspetti epidemiologici, clinici ed evolutivi della meningite purulenta negli adulti. Il nostro studio è stato descrittivo, retrospettivo e monocentrico su un periodo di 10 anni.
Sono stati registrati 51 casi di meningite purulenta acquisita in comunità. L'età media dei pazienti era di 41 anni.
Quasi la metà dei pazienti (49%, 25 pazienti) aveva un'età compresa tra 25 e 49 anni, con una predominanza di maschi. Nel 69% dei pazienti è stata rilevata almeno un'anamnesi patologica.
La febbre era il sintomo principale nel 98% dei pazienti. La coltura del liquido cerebrospinale è risultata positiva nel 32% dei casi e il germe più frequentemente isolato è stato S.
pneumoniae. Il tasso di mortalità è stato dell'8%.
