Being young, healthy, and active, J. was completely caught off guard by the diagnosis. An avid rock climber and mountaineer, she has a passion for the outdoors and spends as much time off the beaten path as possible, with adventures that have taken her across oceans and to the tops of the highest peaks. With her illness, she was suddenly unable to do the things she loved most. Overwhelmed and struggling to express how she was feeling, Barrett once again turned to writing. Instead of focusing on her anxiety and illness, she could get lost in the world of Imbria, forgetting about medications and surgeries and doctors for a few beautiful moments.
