Michaud is the author of SAL MINEO,A BIOGRAPHY (Harmony Books (2010)/Three Rivers Press (2011), which was nominated for a Lambda Book Award in 2011. The acclaimed book was a pick of the month in Los Angeles Times Magazine and for Turner Classic Movies. SAL MINEO, A BIOGRAPHY was adapted for the screen by James Franco. Michaud appears in the Biography Channel/Smart Entertainment production of the documentary CRIME SPECIAL: HOLLYWOOD'S MOST NOTORIOUS CRIMES (2012), and the feature documentary, STEVEN ARNOLD'S HEAVENLY BODIES (2015) about avant-garde filmmaker and photographer, Steven Arnold. Michaud is the co-author with actress Diane McBain of FAMOUS ENOUGH, A HOLLYWOOD MEMOIR (Bear Manor Media, 2014). Michaud has volunteered and advocated for numerous non-profit organizations and charitable causes, including The Roar Foundation, which supports the Shambala Preserve for endangered, exotic big cats, the Museum of California Design, Pen Center, and the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation. Being provocative and challenging the mores of society always informed Mae West’s playbook. Her controversial and hugely entertaining nightclub act in the 1950s reminded fans and critics alike that she remained a thoughtful social critic.

“Pushing the envelope” was nothing new for the actress, and was still an effective and memorable gimmick. Her objectification of men – nearly stripped bare from head to toe and paraded around the stage for an audience – was the complete opposite of what had been seen and celebrated before in the fields of live entertainment.

Her shameless exploitation of the male body not only titillated the females in her audience, it forever changed the way men were physically objectified in the public eye. “All this steak,” she would say, “and no potatoes.
