I am on a creative journey. I write, create art, and cook (rinse and repeat). I started with diary novels, and my characters were a bit quirky and out there. It was a fantastic way to start writing because a diary novel explores how a character thinks around the clock... beyond 'the plot.' I have always been an avid reader. I inhaled books for decades. And then I stumbled upon Macondo in 100 Years of Solitude and was swept off my feet. I was mesmerized by Water for Chocolate. I started exploring books of all genres, simply taking them in and observing their art. My favorite authors range from Arundhati Roy to Mervyn Peake and Gabriel Garcia Marquez to Laura Esquivel. Umberto Eco to Marion Zimmer Bradley, with so many authors in between. BE ON THE LOOKOUT FORLyra’s Kitchen! My latest book! I love it. It is subtle. Smooth, if that is what you are in the mood for. Deep, if you are looking out for it, and the narrative flows without a typical plot. It stops and focuses on the least expected elements. It is about women, roles, families, light and dark aspects of human nature, food, fantasy, reality, society, tradition, society and individuality. It winds its way around a kitchen. Food. Yes. Food. It winds its way around many things. Ever so subtly...It's unconventional. And unconventional is always medicinal.MY CURRENT PROJECTA series. Like Lyra’s Kitchen, this current series I am creating could be defined as magical realism. Is it? It isn't? I don't know. To me, it reflects life. There is a magical realism element weaving through reality, so why not through the books? This series aims to thread this 'magical reality' unto the needle and stitch it into a tapestry weaving through time, places, events, and people in this saga about a most unusual family.Stay tuned. The first book will be released soon. (Soon is so relative, but isn't everything? relative?)I am very interested in the human experience and human nature and how they are affected by the timeless battle between light and dark. I am also fascinated by the idea that we carry our ancestral experiences within us. Another notion that I find fascinating and is reflected in the series is the 'interconnectedness' between everything. I mean everything. The concept that we are actually all related is also fascinating if you consider its deeper meaning. We all originate from the same ancestors and carry everything with us. Now that's baggage. Amazing? I think so.Unconventional? Most definitely. But reality is unconventional once one opens their eyes.In a nutshell, I am fascinated by how people think, behave, respond, and perceive the world. I am intrigued by cultures and traditions and their effects on people, society, and events. This series (The Series That Shall Not Be Named Publicly Yet!) highlights these themes. If you like this sort of thing, along with family sagas and historical fiction, this series is for you. So stay tuned!Live, Love, Laugh is the motto. Foodie is the persuasion. My favorite food group was chocolate; I think it's anything with honey on it now. Coffee is the vitamin of choice. I never say no to an exciting cocktail or two. No fast food. Ever. Ethically, I am a vegan, but not a practicing one. (?, I know, it sounds terrible). Jazz is fantastic, but I have 'my songs' in many other places: Ella elle l'a / Back to Black/ Year of the Cat/ We're All Alone/ SmoothI don't go with the flow - it's not intentional; it just comes naturally. I respect individuality and uniqueness. So be as weird as you can. Be different.
