James L. Thompson, Jr. was born in Dothan, Alabama located in Southeast Alabama. He graduated from Troy State University with a B.S. and a Master’s in English Education. After college, James taught high school English at Henderson High School in DeKalb County Georgia. After four years of teaching, he resigned and joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent. James served five years with the FBI and was stationed in Houston and New York. He later resigned from the FBI and joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as a Senior Special Agent in Dallas, Texas with EPA’s Criminal Investigation Division. In 2001, James was promoted to the Special Agent-in-Charge of the Philadelphia CID Regional Office. James retired from EPA in 2007 and became a licensed Private Investigator in Montgomery County.Additionally, from 2003 to 2010 James served as an Adjunct Faculty Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania where he created and presented a graduate level course on Environmental Justice, presenting case studies on criminal investigations and regulatory enforcement. James has pursued several interests with much success. In 2010, he formed Abuzz Filmworks, an independent film production company. That same year James wrote, directed and produced his first short film titled “The Coloring.” In 2020, James worked as a Census Field Supervisor for the 2020 Census. Later that same year he worked with Montgomery County Voter Services to help process ballots for the 2020 Presidential Election. In March 2021, James began working with Montgomery County Pennsylvania COVID-19 Vaccination Centers where he registered clients to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. His third book, Just My Imagination Running Away with Me, released on February 13, 2023, is a testament to his tireless creativity and optimistic vision for this world. His fourth book, Love is like Glass Slippers, was released on January 15, 2024. LOVE is like a giant umbrella under which many forms of affection exist. The range of emotions for love is voluminous and it includes the love for persons, animals, things, places, ideas, food, and religion.
If we are lucky, many of us go from puppy love to a more stable love in a matter of years; however, some of us may never find true love or our soulmate in life. My new book, Love Is Like Glass Slippers, uses LOVE as its central theme as it explores many of the ways that love manifests itself in our lives.
Taken from the title of one of my original poems, this new book pushes the boundaries of love and attempts to flesh out some of love’s mysteries. Using the same formula as my last book, Just My Imagination Running Away with Me, I find myself blending fantasy with reality as I use distinct voices to tell the various stories of love within these pages.
I employ different personas as narrators to fit the story details. In my last book, I used such personas as a scared crime reporter, a shy high school student, a hyper nine-year-old boy, a brave teenaged girl, and others to weave stories that resonate with passion and realness.
I have been blessed with many years of experience in working as a public servant to realistically impart all of the detailed stories herein. The wisdom I have gained from being exposed to all sorts of people at all different levels allows me to tell stories with authenticity and validation.
Being a good listener and a keen observer has served me well in my quest to be a good teacher, an earnest investigator, and an impactful writer. My hope is that you enjoy the different nuances of love illustrated throughout this book and learn to appreciate that love means different things to different people.
However, in the end, I believe “Love Conquers All” as we yearn to read stories about the miracles of love and how we can find a shoe that finally fits. .
