Jay Black is a Canadian author of fiction and award-winning poet. Formerly of London, Toronto, and Calgary, he now lives in Vancouver.In the 2000s, dozens of his poems—in English and in French translation—appeared in print literary journals in Belgium, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His bilingual chapbook Blackbird Hollow | Le creux du merle earned two prizes at the 2008 (38th) biennial competition of fine arts organized by Recontres artistiques et littéraires in Ste-Geneviève-des-Bois, France: le prix Minerve for a suite of poems demonstrating knowledge and reflection in the poet's chosen subject, and le prix Mots Secrets for a collection that recalls the state of love, its attitude and surrounds.Terror House Press (Sheridan, Wyoming) reprinted Jay's 2004 novella Guttersnipe in 2021, then published his debut novel Blood Poppy in 2022. In 2024, Anxiety Press (Chicago, Illinois) published a limited first edition of First Kisses, a short story collection.
