Open Hearts Big Dreams created and published READY SET GO BOOKS since 2017 becoming the largest publisher of bilingual stories featuring African stories and languages.The ultimate goal is to create enough colorful, culturally appropriate books to help increase the literacy rate in Ethiopia while also increasing the number of books from the continent of Africa globally. Millions of people in Ethiopia are eager to practice reading: Students in overcrowded classrooms that may contain no books at all; Women who didn’t have a chance to go to school; People of all ages who’ve never before seen words printed in their heart language.OHBD also works on language preservation for endangered languages with the help of global volunteers.Award-winning children’s book author Jane Kurtz, who learned to read in Ethiopia, leads the OHBD creative team, working with volunteers to create easy-to-read books inspired by stories, proverbs, and scenes from daily life in Ethiopia.
