Pascal Vatinel is a French novelist. He is also a lecturer, a specialist in China, the 2013 winner of the Institut Français for the Stendhal mission and, in 2015, of the Bourse Création of the CNL (Centre National du Livre). Born in Paris, he began studying Sinology at a very early age, but it was his regular travels in the Far East, North America and Australia that inspired him to write.After an essay on Taoist philosophy and a 1st novel published in 2007, L'Affaire du cuisinier chinois, he wrote three thrillers revolving around the character of Thomas Kessler, an investigative journalist and connoisseur of China: Les Larmes du Phénix (2010), Parce que le sang n'oublie pas (2011, Babel 2012), and Environnement Mortel (2012).Built between current events and fiction, these dark novels explore the many facets, including the most surprising and darkest, of this part of the planet.After a break due to his many activities in children's literature (see below) and his extensive travels, the author returns to crime fiction in 2018 with Les Onze Orphelins de Mme Li.Her first "Australian" opus, Le chant des galahs, was published in January 2020. Immediately a finalist for several literary prizes, he received a "coup de cœur" from France Inter in 2021. The same year, it is republished in Poche. The second opus, <> Australian Land, appears in early 2022.Pascal Vatinel also publishes for young people (Actes Sud). He is the winner of numerous awards: Prix des Incorruptibles 2012, Prix Dérives de l'Orient 2012, Prix NRP 2013, Prix jeunesse de Boulay 2013, Prix Benjamin St Benoit 2014, Prix du Salon de Brive 2014. It was with his novel Le Tigre de Baiming that Actes Sud opened a new "Adventure" collection in June 2012. This was followed by L'émeraude sacrée de Shwedagon (2013), La dernière course (2014), Mush, l'incroyable odyssée (2015), Emily et le chasseur d'étoiles (2017). He is also the author of the seven titles in the Fleur de Printemps series: Niao et le roi qui aimait les oiseaux, Bao et le Dragon de jade, Li, le jeune archer du roi, Zhang le peintre magicien, les Fils du Ciel, Aïko, la jeune fille à l'éventail, Le trésor des Pandas Géants.In addition to his writing, Pascal Vatinel regularly hosts conferences throughout France, discussions on his books and writing workshops...Since 2019 and the Covid "crisis", Pascal Vatinel has devoted most of his time to the Visual Arts and the creation of paintings.
