1632), campione di un austero moralismo, e ne fu conquistato. Così la Messalina, da "ritratto" lascivo, si convertì in "esempio" morale, "antidoto" del vizio, riprendendo da Tacito la morte infame della protagonista, monito a donne e donzelle.
In parallelo la prosa si convertiva a quello stile "laconico" che il Malvezzi propugnava. Del testo si danno le due redazioni, entrambe del 1633: la seconda rielaborata in poche settimane, ad approfondire la lezione del Tarquinio.
