Guerra nel Dodecaneso, dopo il tragico Armistizio dell’Italia dell’8 settembre 1943 e lo sbarco degli anglo Americani a Salerno (Operazione “Avalanche”) e nelle regioni del sud Italia, la Marina e l’Aviazione tedesca dovettero impegnarsi al massino nel Dodecaneso, il gruppo di dodici Isole dell’Egeo, tra cui Rodi, che l’Italia aveva ottenuto dopo la guerra italo-turca del 1911. La campagna militare che ne segui, detta del Dodecaneso comportò tutta una serie di eventi bellici ampiamente favoriti dalla grande confusione e mancanza spesso di direttive dallo stato maggiore generale italiano che portò le truppe italiane ad unirsi in gran parte con le forze alleate anglo-greche stanziate nel Dodecaneso, a cercare di far fronte alla potenza militare tedesca che immediatamente si organizzò per cercare di recuperare il controllo della situazione.

in alcuni casi ci furono aspri e terribili combattimenti, come a Lero, Rodi e Coo che si conclusero con la disfatta totale delle forze alleate. .
