Frank grew up reading the likes of Piers Anthony, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Stephen R. Donaldson. Although his reading (and writing) habits ranged far and wide, he never lost that love for fantasy and science fiction.Probably due to the influence of his crime fiction work (written under the name Frank Zafiro), as well as a tip of the hat to G.R.R. Martin, Frank's work tends toward the darker, grittier, more realistic end of the fantasy spectrum. In his worlds, magic exists but comes at a price. People can be kind or noble, but they can also be petty or cruel. It is a fantasy reflection of the people in our own world.Frank lives in central Oregon with his wife, Kristi. Two magical beasts also reside with them – Richie, a loyal and loving dog, and Pasta, a cat loyal only to himself. Sadly, Richie's brother Wiley, the most faithful and leal of companions, has moved on from this realm.Frank also writes under his given name, Frank Scalise.
