Jimmy and Karen, each superbly and humorously characterised, led me (whilst pushing and shoving each other) back to a time and society which I had all but forgotten, bringing it all alive again. This book would appeal to anyone who lived through the early Eighties and to those who didn't but want a glimpse of life in the shadow of Mutually Assured Destruction.

Would love to see this transferred to television. 5.

While full of humour, the author portrays his characters with sensitivity and manages to poke fun at them without being disrespectful to the women's movement, and the great work that was done by campaigners at the time. A great read for remembering a bit of history, or learning a bit.

While it was well-plotted and the different strands of the storyline handled well, it was the realisation of the characters and their dialogue that really shone for me - I love Jimmy and Karen and really enjoyed their funny, snappy chat - great fun.
