Nicki Dechert Carlson was born and raised in Kerrville, Texas. She attended Kerrville public schools and graduated from Tivy High School in 1993. While at Tivy, Nicki met John Carlson, and the two began dating and are married to this day. John is a solo law practitioner specializing in estate planning, probate, and guardianship matters. They have three children: Rachel, Grace, and Johnathan.Carlson released her first book near the end of 2021, "Grace-Faced: Pursuing the Life-Changing Perspective of a Loving God." She has previously written for newspapers, magazines, trade journals, and on her blog “Expressively His.” Grace-Faced has been met with great enthusiasm and praise.
