Candace Brown is a Brooklyn, New York native. Her formative years between the historical Bedford-Stuyvesant and Crown Heights helped to shape the woman she is today. Mother of two, her son Isaiah and nephew-son Amire. Candace now resides in Greenwood, IN. Currently working in her chosen field in healthcare and doubling as a photographer. Her biggest writing inspirations are Maya Angelou, Nikki Giovanni, and Iyanla Vanzant.Culture, history and pride were instilled in her at an early age. Candace learned early on she was a little different from the crowd. If left up to her, she would sit in the corner for hours, curled up with a book and her imagination, sometimes forgetting to eat. She was so captivated by words on a page and the imagery she formed, she always felt books were kind of her best friend. In 8th grade, she decided to join an afterschool poetry club, when she had never written anything outside of schoolwork. Little did she know, writing poetry became a way of life for her. She uses vivid imagery to paint a picture for her reader. Candace writes in a way that makes you feel as though you are right there with her. “If you don't understand yourself you don't understand anybody else.”~~Nikki GiovanniCandace’s biggest goal is to inspire other girls, women, boys and men who never felt heard to continue to push through. She sees you because she is you. Like the iconic Iyanla Vanzant says, “I am not my sister’s keeper. I am my sister”. A giver of self, Candace loves to help be a beacon of life to anyone she can.
