Von den Patienten wurden Nasopharyngealabstriche entnommen, um das humane Metapneumovirus mittels Real-Time-PCR molekular zu diagnostizieren, außerdem wurden Serumproben von Patienten und Kontrollen entnommen, um die Konzentration von TNF-α und IL-10 mittels ELISA zu messen. Die aus den nasopharyngealen Proben gewonnenen Ergebnisse wurden durch RT-PCR für die Diagnose von hMPV amplifiziert.
Der Prozentsatz der Proben war positiv für das Virus (53 %) von (100) Proben. .
