Shyamali Perera was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and emigrated to the United States in 1989 with her family during Sri Lanka’s civil war. She was an educator of young children for thirty years in Orange County, California. Her first book, Curry & Rice, was published as a Mother’s Day gift in 2007 and published as an e-book in 2014. Since then, she has published several cookbooks and children’s books in both e-book and paperback versions. Reading was always magical to Shyamali because her parents made reading fun. She made picture stories while growing up and knew that someday she wanted to be a children’s story writer. Shyamali is also a recent contributor to the Talon Magazine at Santiago Canyon College in Orange, California. She says she has acquired her creativity and storytelling from her mother and three generations of women in her family. Shyamali is also an amateur photographer and likes to create beautiful photo books with inspiring ideas. She lives with her family in Southern California and continues to dedicate her time to writing a variety of cookbooks, children’s books, and her philanthropic work.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
