ALISSA SAMMARCO graduated from the University of Rochester with a BA in Economics and a Minor in Creative Writing where she was awarded three Dean's Literary Award for Playwriting and the Pearl Stearling Evans Award for most Promising Woman Writer. Alissa is a practicing Attorney in Cincinnati, Ohio. She returned to the Ohio River Valley after living in the West and the South. She draws sharp images from the Ocean and the forests where she's lived. Her poems have appeared in various print and online journals including Sheila-Na-Gig, Black Moon Magazine, Change Seven, Main Street Rag, Stone Canoe, VIA: Voices in Italian Americana, Evening Street Review, Hags on Fire, But There was Fire in the Distance, Ohio Bards and elsewhere. She was awarded Honorable Mention and published in Quiet Diamonds, and Honorable Mention for the Patricia Dobler Poetry Award at Carlow University. Art is also a longstanding part of Alissa's creative career. She curated art shows in Cincinnati from 2012 to 2017. Recently, she pairs her poems with paintings and has been shown at Art Beyond Boundaries and Washington Park Art Galleries in Cincinnati.Beyond the Dawn is Alissa's debut poetry book.
