Let's be honest about something. I hate writing these stupid bios. Everybody hates writing these things. I would honestly write another book than write this bio. When I initially published my book, I reached out to an established author of some renown and asked for her advice. When she said I would have to write a brief biography, my heart sank. That may be why I have spent the last few months avoiding the inevitability of it all. It's been so long since I initially published my book that I had convinced myself "I must have posted something up there." When I checked yesterday, sure enough… it was blank. I would have written it yesterday, but once again I realized that something this important could not just be thrown up on the web for the world to see without some serious thought. So I binged myself on 90's sitcoms to seek inspiration until I realized it was time to run some errands. This morning it was at the top of my to-do list. I sat in front of the laptop for what seemed like hours (it was actually seconds) muttering to myself "I don’t want to do this!" I then wandered around the house procrastinating what I dreaded doing the most until I found a party-size bag of Doritos in which I could find comfort and happiness. Then I came across a TV show about the Roman Empire; which was educational, so it was important that I watch it. Right? Don't judge me. Anyway...These "brief" biographies are usually expected to be delicately crafted in a manner that allows you to advertise your greatest accomplishments without somehow sounding like a pretentious braggart. What's worse is that they are typically written in third person, which I assume is a vain attempt to make it sound like you're not a vain person. The sad truth is that unless you are one of the heirs to the Wal-Mart fortune, you can't afford to hire a publicist to write it for you. Besides, any author worth their salt is not going to allow some publicist to toot their horn when they can do it themselves. So, like the other 99.9% of the authors in the world, I go through this charade of pretending I'm not writing this myself, when everybody knows I am. Most importantly, I walk the delicate tightrope of making myself sound as credentialed as possible without bragging. Let's face it… among those who practice the dark arts of psychology and counseling, the whole bragging and over-inflating your importance HAS BEEN DONE. Alas, I present to you (drumroll, please…): My bio. May it be confident without arrogance, simple yet not simplistic, ample without rambling, and most of all, may it be compelling without… insert your own word. I'm done. Chris Wilson has devoted years to helping families in their homes, their schools, and their communities. Of particular interest to him is in assisting children diagnosed with behavior disorders and their families reach their full potential. Chris's theoretical approach focuses on self evaluation, personal responsibility, and an optimistic view that individuals and groups are capable of positive change. His preferred method of helping is through one-on-one relationships based on trust. As Chris says: "There's nothing like sitting across from someone in their home and having a genuine conversation to affect genuine change in their lives. That's kind of hard to do in a book, but it would probably be even more difficult, less effective, and down right creepy if I went around knocking on doors asking if I could help parents with their kids. Maybe… just maybe… we can help some folks with books that we can't help in any other way."Read more about this authorRead less about this author
