Nací en un pequeño pueblo de Mérida, Venezuela, llamado «La Parroquia». El menor de trece hermanos —ocho mujeres y cinco hombres—. Hijo de Carmen —murió cuando yo tenía veinte— y Golfredo —murió cuando yo tenía siete—. De ella heredé la tolerancia, de él, el humor negro. De ambos, el amor por la familia y el país.Escribo porque me divierte y pretendo divertir a quien me lee. Es una válvula de escape para huir de una realidad que gracias a los muchos años de socialismo criollo, cada día se hace más hostil y extraña. Escribir es una forma de exiliarme. De escapar. Al tiempo que me ayuda a interpretar la extraña circunstancia que nos ha tocado vivir a los venezolanos. También escribo para dejar la huella de una vida plasmada en letras.A veces con humor, otras con drama, mis historias siempre tienen impregnada la marca del ser humano, de la vida humana.Mi vida es una constante lucha diaria contra los prejuicios. Mato uno y aparecen diez, pero sigo combatiéndolos y escribir también me ayuda en esa batalla.I was born in a small village in Mérida, Venezuela, called "La Parroquia" (The Parrish). The youngest of 13 siblings -- eight women and five men --. Son of Carmen, who passed when I was 20 -- and Golfredo, who passed when I was seven. From her I got tolerance, and from him a black sense of humor. From both I got the love for the family and the homeland. I write because it is fun and because I want to entertain my readers. It is the outlet from a reality which, thanks to these 16 years of Creole Socialism, is becoming more hostile and bizarre. Writing is my living in exile, so to speak; my escape. What's more, it also serves as an interpretation of the strange circumstances under which we, Venezuelans, have to live. I also write to leave a mark of my life expressed in words. With humor at times, with drama at others. My stories bear the mark of humanity, of human life itself. My life is a constant battle against prejudices.
