Dr. Pam Boehm grew up in Hubbard Texas. Upon graduating from high school, she obtained a secretarial certificate from Hill College and then moved to Irving Texas, where she was employed for three years working as a legal secretary for Mary Kay Cosmetics, Inc. With a desire to finish her education, she moved back to Hill County and enrolled at McLennan Community College and earned an Associate of Arts DEgree. She was hired in July of 1978 at Hill College as a switchboard operator and administrative assistant to the Dean of Instruction. After ten years in this position, she quit to pursue her bachelor's degree.She received her BAchelor of Applied ARts and Sciences Degree in Business/management (1988) and Master of Education in Counseling (1991) Degree from Tarleton State University. She obtained a professional counselor's license from the State of Texas (1993), as well as a professional counselor's supervisor's license. She completed her Doctor of Education Degree in Secondary, Curriculum and Higher Education from Texas A & M University Commerce (2006).She has served Hill College in capacity of vocational counselor, Director of Counseling & TEsting, Dean of Students, Vice President of Student Services, Director of Behavioral Sciences/psychology instructor, crisis counselor, and President.She has served as a member of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, vice president and president of the Texas Association of Chief Student Affairs Association and served on several state and legislative committees.Her accomplishments include securing grant funding to assist first general college students in making the transition to college from high school, funding for special population students, as well as acquired federal funding for disadvantaged college students. Additional accomplishments include developing the JumpStart Program to provide funding for dual credit students, as well as establishing an early college high school for students attending Burleson and Centennial High School.Community contributions include serving on the site-based management committee for Whitney High School, Hospice of the Heart Board member, president-elect of the Hillsboro Business & Professional Women's Organization, and the CRCG resource group of Hillsboro. She has conducted numerous professional development workshops for Hill College and the community on topics such as stress management, grant writing, customer service, learning styles, ethics, ADA compliance, wellness, and leadership.Her teaching accomplishments include the expansion of the Behavior Science Department at Hill College, development of new courses, and integration of virtual technology into the curriculum. She was the recipient of the 2010 NISOD Teaching Excellence award and was nominated by her peers for the Minnie STevens Piper Teaching award. She was also selected for the Who's Who Among College Teacher's award.In 2019, she received recognition along with the City of Burleson as a Community College Futures Assembly Bellwether finalist. She was instrumental in securing Texas Tech State University as a higher education partner on her Johnson County Campus in Cleburne and Center at Burleson authorizing students to receive a four-year degree, as well as working alongside Burleson ISD and the City of Burleson to develop a new higher education center in Burleson.She has published an article in Community College Times entitled "Promoting Academic Integrity in Institutions of Higher Education." She has authored monthly articles for the Cleburne Times Review, Burleson Star, and Hillsboro Reporter Newspapers.She was presented the Hillsboro 2017 Lion's Club Citizen of the Year, the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce 2018 Visionary Leader in Education award, inducted in2019 as the Hubbard Chamber of Commerce Hall of Fame, the 2021 Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, the 2021 Cleburne Chamber of Commerce inductee into the Hall of Fame, and the Cleburne 2022 Good Scout recipient. Other accomplishments includ ethe 2022 Jessie Jones Leadership award recognized by the North Central Texas Community College Consortium. In 2022, Dr. Boehm was recognized by the Office of the Mayor of Cleburne Texas as Dr. Pam Boehm Day.Upon retirement, Dr. Boehm was honored by Hill College in the development of the "Pamela J. Boehm Student Emergency Aid Grant" to assist students to move beyond hurdles they encounter to continue their education.After a 41-year career in higher education and eight years as President of Hill College, Dr. Boehm spends her time volunteering by interviewing local students for scholarships, enjoying lake life, writing, and hanging out with her family and four grandchildren.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
