James E. MacDougald, was born in Providence, R.I. and grew up as an "Army Brat" as his father spent a 25-year career in the US Army. Jim attended schools in Germany, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico, Utah, Maryland, Louisiana and Mexico. He and his wife, Suzanne, reside in St. Petersburg, FL. In 1982 he established his own company with his wife Suzanne as his partner. In 1994, the company, ABR Information Services, Inc., went public. Ceridian Corporation acquired ABR in 1999 and MacDougald retired in 2000. He subsequently invested in and became Chairman of the Board of Odyssey Marine Exploration, Inc., the world leader in deep-ocean shipwreck exploration. He retired for the second time in 2003. Since retirement, Jim has devoted his time to philanthropy and writing. His first book, “Unsustainable: How Big Government, Taxes and Debt Are Wrecking America”, was published in June 2010. He was a frequent guest on FOX, CNBC, MSNBC, and numerous other television and radio talk programs. In 2016 he published the authoritative 176-page limited edition of the history of the rare 1966-1967 Ghia 450/SS automobile, “Burt Sugarman and the Last Ghia.” In 2018 he authored his first work dealing with the Spanish entradas in the New World, “The Panfilo de Narvaez Expedition of 1528.” His follow-on work, The Maps That Change Florida's History" was published in May 2021. He has been awarded an honorary Doctorate by Eckerd College. He is currently a trustee of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola, FL and The History Council in St. Petersburg, FL.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
