I first became interested in the topic of critical minerals when I attended a fellowship where I studied the transition to a global green economy. After I completed my studies, I continued to research and invest in the low-carbon space. When I retired from the military in 2022, I decided to a write a book on the lithium industry as that was central to my ongoing efforts to better understand the green energy industry. I liked the process of writing because it forced me to structure my ideas and really bear down on the details of my topic - general assertions didn't cut it for an audience who needed relevant, measurable data. Overall, this book is a documentation of my own journey to better understand the global lithium value chain. I found great value in the process of writing it and wanted to pass on my own knowledge (however limited) to the interested reader. While I discuss politics, strategy, macroeconomics and relevant business best practices, I ensured that I discussed the topic down to the level of specific companies, both public and private.I absolutely enjoyed creating this final product of "The Lithium Economy" and I hope the reader gets something of value out of it. I can always be reached @gwstrategies.net. Thank you. Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Feed the Dragon is a detailed study of China's battery mineral operations in Africa. The U.

S. and China are chief rivals in the international system and part of this competition includes the race for increasingly limited critical minerals.

Africa, once the preserve of Western colonial powers, is open for business and their raw materials are on the table for discussion. To date, China has engaged the African nations in a persistent and comprehensive manner to secure their mineral needs in order to feed their growing battery and electric vehicle industries.

While there are serious challenges in Africa such as endemic corruption, decaying infrastructure and violent insurgencies, Beijing has deftly navigated these sometimes treacherous waters to strengthen their strategic economy. Feed the Dragon illuminates Beijing's relentless tactics and how the U.

S. and China have fared in this struggle for the sometimes overlooked inputs that are the foundation for their strategic respective technology programs.
