Le sequenze STR hanno unità ripetute di dimensioni variabili tra 2 e 7 paia di basi e costituiscono regioni microsatelliti del DNA. Il CODIS, o Combined DNA Index System, è stato il primo database di DNA codificato fondato dall'FBI con l'uso di marcatori molecolari ed è ora universale, contenente da 13 a 21 geni STR con frequenze note in diversi gruppi di popolazione e utilizzato per i test di paternità e il DNA forense.
L'obiettivo è quello di standardizzare e implementare i marcatori molecolari appartenenti al sistema CODIS. Analisi delle frequenze alleliche e confronto con altre popolazioni, per l'implementazione del test di paternità presso l'Università Federale di Rondônia (UNIR).
