Dr Shorful Islam is the co-founder and CEO of Be Data Solutions, an end-to-end data consultancy, based in London, UK, with teams in India and Bangladesh.He has over 20 years of industry experience in data space, having used machine learning during his PhD before the term data science was popularised. With knowledge of advanced analytical and statistical techniques, and data science technologies, he has helped some of the world’s largest companies with their data strategies and built predictive, prescriptive, and operational models that answer fundamental business questions.He also holds roles as Founder of Subatomic Analytics, a digital and data analytics consultancy and serves as Data & AI advisor to several start-ups, including OutThink, BEAM, Data Ravens and FitForWork.He occasionally lectures at different Universities and colleges, including Ulster University, and previously at the University of Indonesia on their MBA program. He also speaks at conferences such as Big Data London, Information Security Forum (ISF), IMH Data Management Forum, Adobe Summit, etc. His previous roles included, Chief Data Scientist at Tribal Worldwide (London and Singapore), Managing Director and co-founder at Stream Intelligence (a Data Science Consultancy based in London and Jakarta), Managing Partner, Data and Insights at Wunderman, Head of Data at Adam&eve/DDB, and Head of Business Information and Customer Data Strategy at ITV, where he has built, managed and grown different varieties of data teams. He has also worked for the NHS and other public sector organisations. Dr Shorful started his career as a lecturer after completing his PhD in Psychology, his dissertation focusing on predicting accidental injuries in children.
