Author Name
Ed Nielsen (Author)
Ed Nielsen grew up on a farm in Iowa and, following high school, attended DeVry Technical Institute (now DeVry University). Although he never served in the military, he spent his entire career working for the Department of Defense. At various points in his life he played the accordion, trombone, and piano, but his current focus is just listening to great music. He and his wife Connie are retired and live in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Warriors is his first book. It's composed of nine first-person accounts from Vietnam War veterans, including an artillery forward observer, a Navy pilot, a Navy chaplain to the Marines, a battalion surgeon, a radio operator, a Marine infantryman, a Marine computer programmer (for comic relief), an Army recon team leader, and several Army infantrymen. The events these men relate range from routine to harrowing, giving the reader a realistic view of what day-to-day life in a war zone was like. Follow these men from the day they arrived in Vietnam to the day they left. Find out what their thoughts were before, during, and after the war. Nielsen's second book, Classical Classics, includes over 120 classical CD reviews, several composer biographies, and several essays on various aspects of the subject; some of those essays are irreverent yet accurate; yes, classical music can involve humor. Classical Classics will be useful to anyone with even the slightest interest in classical music, regardless of musical knowledge. It doesn't matter if you've got a doctorate in music, or if you can't tell a quarter note from a quarter horse. If you're looking for some good CDs, this book will tell you which ones are the best. If your collection is complete, the book also provides the stories behind the music, as well as a ton of interesting information on the composers, musicians, and conductors. Many of these folks were either very eccentric or unbelievably brilliant, usually both. The anecdotes and stories in Classical Classics are worth the price of the book all by themselves.Nielsen has since written or coauthored over a dozen other nonfiction books. Subjects range from world travel to softball and baseball, and from current events and humor to small-town histories and combat experiences. His current project will document farm life in the '40s and 50s, a subject with which he and his coauthor are intimately familiar. For more information or to purchase any of these books, go to: www.BooksByEdNielsen.comRead more about this authorRead less about this author
