Catherine Milton is a social entrepreneur with over fifty years of public service. Early in her career in the 1970’s, she learned how to make a difference in the tough world of policing, writing and co-authoring six books on criminal justice reform and pushing through two significant pieces of legislation focused on victims’ rights. In the 1980s she left Washington, DC to found and direct the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University. In the process, she became a national leader in the emerging grassroots community service movement including founding Youth Service California. In the early 1990s she returned to DC to become executive director of the Commission on National and Community Service and then Vice President of the Corporation for National Service in charge of the team that shaped and launched AmeriCorps which is now celebrating its 30th anniversary and has engaged over one million members. Following that, she headed up Save the Children’s work in the US and later was president of Friends of the Children. She now serves as a commissioner on California Services where she chairs the committee on AmeriCorps. She lives in Northern California with her husband Michael Closson and is joyfully engaged with her two sons (Rafe and Luke), daughters-in-law (Debbie and Amanda), and two grandchildren, Theo and Dylan.Read more about this authorRead less about this author
