“You don’t look like a Nerd. ” said Caroline.
One of the greatest compliments a Nerd can ever hear. Maybe it was the leather biker jacket, the cowboy boots, or the stretchy black beanie keeping my head warm, whatever the reason, for that moment I wasn’t a Nerd… and it felt kinda good.
“What do I look like?”Caroline looks me up and down again and says, “You look like a Biker… or maybe a Cowboy Biker?”What a crazy idea! And the more I thought about it, watched other men, and looked at my own strengths, weaknesses, flaws, failures, and successes in some weird and quirky way it all CLICKED! …Cowboys, Bikers, and Nerds. It seems as men we often take ourselves too seriously and miss the joy in life, at least I do, and I am assuming many of you do as well.
So, while we will dive into some serious topics, most of this book will be approached from a lighthearted let’s have some fun and laugh at ourselves perspective. Remember, lighthearted, have fun, laugh.
As we go through this little adventure, have fun and get a few laughs but my personal desire is for you to walk away with a sense of who you are and what you can do to be a more balanced man in the 21st century… and Beyond!! (lol, a little nerd humor there). It’s all about Balance.
We strive to find Balance and get things right, but sometimes we get out of balance and we can’t see how out of balance we are. That’s where tools like this book and other people in our lives can really help to point us in the right direction.
Sometimes we get it right and sometimes we are a mess looking for a place to go splat. I Am a Believer, a Christian, and my world view is shaped by that perspective, but this is not a “Christian self-help book”.
It does contain ideas and opinions based on my beliefs, I will reference Bible verses and talk about God, but this book is not targeted at or limited to those who believe what I believe. This book is for men in the 21st Century and the stuff we as 21st century males deal with every day.
I hope you discover the confidence to be who God called you to be, or the desire to find a new measure of balance in your life. And that you discover something about yourself you hadn’t seen before.
Balance… it’s important. P.
S. Just for the LadiesI am writing to men for men, and talking about Men.
However, you might find a lot of the traits you read about can apply to you as well. You might discover some very interesting things about yourself in the process, but ultimately this is a guys book.
Exploring this book is an opportunity to better understand the man or men (husband, boyfriend, father, brother, boss, co-worker, employee) in your life and why they are the way they are. I have seen a lot of women who get frustrated with their men for not being “the man” they want them to be.
As you read take the time to look at the men in your life with an eye toward understanding who they are. If you are trying to make a Biker/Nerd into a Cowboy.
. .
you are going to be one miserable woman and you are going to make your man just as, if not more, miserable. Cowboys are laid back hard workers, Bikers are aggressive and creative, while Nerds are intellectual and awkward.
Trying to get a Cowboy excited, a Biker to chill out, or a Nerd to be the life of the party will not work well. Start treating a Nerd like a Nerd and you might be surprised what your Nerd is capable of socially and relationally.
Same goes for Cowboys and Bikers, treat them like the type of men they are and you will be shocked how awesome they really are. .
