Hermann's tortoises are easily recognized by their unique domed carapace decorated with black and yellow markings. Their skin is usually a mixture of brown and black, which helps them blend in with their natural surroundings.

Adult males average about 5-7 inches in length, while females can grow up to 8-10 inches. If given the right care, Hermann's tortoises can live well over 50 years, and some have even been known to live over a century.
