Born in the States and raised in Canada by a single parent, John Thomas Dodds was 17 when he crossed the Peace Bridge on a journey that ended in a casa in Central Mexico. It was 1968 when John enrolled at the University of Texas at El Paso on the GI Bill, after having served four years in the USAF. He worked his way through school as a substitute teacher in an elementary border school, disc jockey, and bartender, graduating with majors in Creative Writing and Drama. Holding dual citizenship John then spent twenty years on the road hitchhiking, twice zigzagging across the States before settling down, switching from the United States and Canada on several career paths that took him from the Maquiladoras on the U.S./Mexican border as a business consultant to developing Internet training labs for the Canadian Government and Metis Council. John has worked as an administrator creating job readiness programs and apprenticeship programs for community college and non-profit organizations. As teacher and employment counsellor he worked with Six Nation Aboriginals, youth, older workers, and ex-cons. He switched careers and started an internet company creating web pages and a job search program online for unemployed. At 65 he semi-retired in Massachusetts and worked as a Vocation Coordinator for a residential treatment center for troubled teens, and followed up as a licensed Special Education Teacher in high school prior to moving to Mexico. Over the years John has penned poetry that explores relationships, spirituality, creativity, and his romance with life, eventually self-publishing on Lulu, Amazon and Kindle 15 volumes of poetry, including two children’s books in verse, A Sneaky Twitch of an Itch, Bilingual, A Journey Home, and a collection of essays and poetry on aging, Comes A Time. Since retiring permanente to the village of Ajijic in Jalisco, Mexico, where he lives with his wife Candis and a clowder furry companions, he has written five novels under the pen name J.T. Dodds; a trilogy titled To Each Their Own Goodbye: Book 1 Anywhere Except Yesterday, Book 2 A Long Way From Nowhere, Book 3 When Tomorrow Is Never Enough.
