How does a scared, introverted kid somehow grow up to be a professional clown, a police officer, and an avid thrill seeker? These are the true-life adventures of a Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey Circus Clown, a Police Officer in Wilmington, Delaware, an iconic corporate clown for the Tri-State region, and an extreme sports enthusiast. All being me. And all leading to an exciting life. As a Ringling Bros. Barnum and Baily Clown, and later Boss Clown, I put my life at risk every day in the name of entertainment. As a result, I had some close calls, and I heard a crack in my neck once when taking an unscheduled high fall in center ring. My time touring the country with the circus is when I began my extreme sports activities: mountain biking, mountain unicycling, white water kayaking (once trapped under a roaring waterfall) and free solo rock climbing; hanging precariously on rock faces without rope or equipment. I graduated number one in my police academy class. As a Wilmington City police officer, I found myself in many exciting situations. I was almost shot twice. And I never once lost a fleeing suspect on foot or in vehicles. As a well-known icon I continued my acrobatic and fall down style of performing well into my advancing years. I met a nine-year-old boy in a trauma center, who hadn’t spoken a word in two years, spoke to me. Besides the adventures, many of the stories in my chronicle exemplify the rewards included in a performing and police lifestyle. You get an insider’s look into both worlds.
