Paquito Montanez was born in Puerto Rico in 1955. At the age of sixteen, he moved to Chicago, played baseball at Roberto Clemente Community Academy, but despite his flawless third base performance, he dropped-out high school and obtained a job with Florsheim Shoe Company. In June 1976, he joined the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic. His desire not to fail again drove him into excellence at every leadership position of increasing responsibility, alternating duty between combat field units, hospitals and clinics, cross-cultural and gender advisory to officers in the rank of General, Army Reserve Components advisory, formal instruction of junior enlisted and officers, culminating a brilliant career in test and evaluation of high-level medical technologies. While in the Army, he was a member of the Fort Carson Post Baseball Team in 1977-78, and spent fifteen years officiating baseball, softball, football, basketball and boxing in schools and military communities, as well as mentoring the youth. Montanez earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and Workforce Development at Southern Illinois University. He holds a post-graduate degree in Upper Level Business Management at Pan-American University, Panama. He obtained his Master Degree in Business Re-engineering and Total Quality Management from International University, Panama, and a Professorship Certificate at International University Panama.
