Author Name
Charles G Bird (Author)
Charles G. Bird is a native Detroiter. He is a graduate of Wayne State University with degrees in Psychology and Business Administration. Curiosity about the roots of Detroit as a French city, and of particular street names, in part led to the creation of this book. The French heritage and legacy continues to this day but the actual French history of Detroit is seldom found in history books, nor is the history of Nouvelle France, New France. Nouvelle France was a very real place that existed until 1760 when it disappeared from the geo-political world of the 18th century. The history of Detroit is unique when compared to any other American city. The Straits of Detroit is Book One in the St. Aubin's Detroit series. More than six years research went into writing the book. The basic concept is to tell the story of Detroit by anchoring fictional stories to actual events and incidents that occurred in Nouvelle Franc,e as seen through the eyes of one of the founding families, the St. Aubin's.In Book One, we meet Jean St. Aubin, as a young boy in France, listening to an army recruiter for King Louis XIV, Antoine Cadillac. They become lifelong friends. As their careers unfold, we see how Cadillac came to conceive of le détroit, the city of the straits and how he gained the support of Louis XIV to establish it. Together, and separately, our heroes engage in many adventures at sea and on land, fighting nature and their enemies, the English, and hostile Indians.Read more about this authorRead less about this author

Cadillac's Detroit is the action-packed, adventure-filled, historical fiction sequel to The Straits of Detroit. What's in the novel? Murder, arson, fraud, and desertion.

Smuggling, adultery, corruption, and cannibalism. Greed, conspiracy, and treachery.

A plague, two sieges, and more! And it all actually happened in the Cadillac years, 1701-1712. When Antoine Cadillac founded Détroit, his plan was to build a multicultural trade center for military and economic purposes.

The fort was built to stop fur smuggling and to keep the English out of the Great Lakes region. The trading post was built to expand French trade and influence with the Native Americans.

Despite powerful enemies in government, business, the church, and hostile Indian tribes, Cadillac and Détroit survived. This is the exciting story of the early years of Detroit and the French pioneers who lived amongst the Indians.
