Author Name
Jim Surmanek (Author)
Jim Surmanek was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1941, an otherwise good year, save the attack on Pearl Harbor. In his senior year of an undistinguished passage through Flushing High School, he accepted the prestigious position of part-time mailroom clerk at Parade magazine. Being skillful at sorting mail, the research director at Parade offered him his second prestigious position, research assistant, a job requiring that he endlessly crunch statistics. A significant turning point in his till then non-illustrious career happened when the Ogilvy & Mather advertising agency, apparently desperate for help, hired him as Media Research Supervisor. He climbed the corporate ladder with only an occasional misstep, at O&M, then J. Walter Thompson, and later at McCann-Erickson. He collected various business cards while he worked in the advertising business, all with his name and titles like Executive Media Director, Senior Vice-President, and General Manager. The cards also had various addresses, which included New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Mexico City. The only card he now has is personal, listing his name and address in Arizona. Writing, painting, carpentry, creating crafts, playing pickleball, and playing golf, in addition to connecting with his family and friends, have filled his days. A year after he was decorated as a hero for preventing a horrendous terrorist attack and saving millions of lives, Branigan faced an emotionally charged career crisis as a counterterrorism agent. At the same time, his nemesis, Fattal, struggled to balance patriotism and ego.

During a cold and snowy New York City winter, they meet again, each dealing with their dilemmas. Seemingly having his back is DeSilva, a recruit with the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau who Branigan discovers is coping with her demons.

Raheeq, Fattal's trusted cohort in terrorism, makes a discovery that questions his loyalty to Fattal. Filled with twists and turns and peppered with humor, this Part II of the Branigan duology presents several unexpected climaxes.
