I grew up in Queenscliff, a small seaside town in Victoria Australia and I am proud of my family history forged over 6 generations through my mother’s family of living and working in this lovely seaside town. My first ancestor to arrive on the shores of Queenscliff was John Wells in 1854. He was a fisherman who worked the waters of Port Phillip and Bass Strait. As have the generations since then. My fathers' family were late comers the Queenscliff moving to Queenscliff in the 1930’s with my grandfather, Augustus Erler who immigrated from the Uk where he serviced in the English Navy in WW1. He moved to Queenscliff with his wife Alice and his 2 children and served in the Australian Navy during WW2 on Swan Island just off the shores of Queenscliff. You could say the sea runs in my veins; however, I am sadly a very poor sailor, but I love the sea just the same and all it brings to those who truly connect with it. I served as the Mayor of the Borough of Queenscliffe in the 1990’s and have also been involved with many local community organisations. I have recently stepped away from a 20-year history as a public servant and am currently building up my consultancy practice and a new venture into writing children's books based on my family stories of their life in a small seaside town.
