Are you lost? Let me find you. Let my a-maze-ing storytelling facilitate your healing. I seek to rhyme-mind you of who you really are. A native of Compton, California...a Math educator of over 20 years. I have studied patterns for many years. I am born poetry. Poetry birthed a nation and I demanded it include me. Words of compassion curve my spine. I bend back to rhyming so not to break. I hold the hand of rhythm to keep from shaking. My books encompass the human experience and there are more to come!Released during Black History Month 2023, is my memoir, Pete Cusses & Poems. A book that documents my loves, my joys, my heartache, and my healing with a balance of poetry. A must buy. In 2019, Evolution was the release of my final book in the trilogy, Life and the Afterbirth. Also, in 2017 my first EP entitled "Backyards of Compton" became available on major streaming services like Spotify and iTunes. Its original album cover artwork has led to an animation series I created titled “Backyards of Compton.” The series has had major studio interest. After being published in an anthology, We Got Issues, edited by Rha Goddess and Jlove Calderon (Inner Ocean Publishing, Inc) another of my poems was published in LA Yoga Magazine in 2011. The Life and the Afterbirth series titles... A Poetic Journey and The Exodus were the first two published poetry books available on Amazon.com. I have recited poetry at The Nuyorican Poets Café (hosted renowned poet Lemon Anderson)on New York’s lower east side, the Red Door in Toluca Lake (accompanied by Scott Page and Luis Oliart), Da Poetry Lounge in L.A (hosted by renowned poet Shihan Van Clief), and the Bakery Poetry Lounge in North Hollywood, California. My preference is meditation as a tool to bring forth an inner-voice that speaks through me to my fingertips. In my quietest moments inspiration turns into a poetic rhythm that narrates the experiences of these voices. If you would like to keep up with me, my future readings, or appearances, you can follow me on Instagram @lifetheexodus.Read more about this authorRead less about this author

"Blood at the Root" is a thriller written by Kimberly Y. Peters, inspired by the song lyrics "Strange Fruit" sung by Billie Holiday and covered by Nina Simone.

Strange fruit is a metaphor for the dead bodies of the enslaved Africans hung and murdered from southern trees. This screenplay tells the story of how the descendants of Osarius' family met the ancestors while both seeking freedom.

The main character, Greg (played by fellow writer, Kyle Reasor) alongside his wife Essence (played by actress Krystyn Spratt) inherit a property--simple enough. Only to find there were some important details left out.

Creating a maze for them and those once enslaved. There is a struggle in transitioning.

The once enslaved imprisoned again, but this time, by their own perceptions. This table read was facilitated by creative, Rita Cofield, as she helped fine tune this cinematic body of work.
