Os achados de níveis séricos elevados de IL-6, TNF-α e TGF-β em mulheres pré-eclâmpticas (tanto no sangue materno como no sangue do cordão umbilical) sugerem um papel definitivo da resposta inflamatória na patogénese da pré-eclâmpsia e, por conseguinte, podem ser úteis no diagnóstico de doentes com pré-eclâmpsia e na identificação de risco cardiovascular futuro.
