While searching book stores for a children's book about the autism spectrum, I discovered that there weren't any to be found. This realization prompted me to write about my personal experience with autism. I have a son named Brayden who is on the autism spectrum. Caring for Brayden has been very challenging, but also rewarding. I am very fortunate to be blessed with the responsibility because having Brayden in my life has made me a better man and has opened my heart. I wrote my first book, Bare Feet and Treats, to help raise awareness and acceptance of autism. It was also written as a tribute to Brayden and his rescue dog, Ally. My second book, Ally, The Fur-Legged Therapist, is about her journey as a rescue dog from a shelter in Alabama. It further exemplifies the exceptional unspoken bond between Ally and Brayden from their very first destined encounter. My third book, Beyond Words, showcases the beautiful friendship between Brayden and his friend Shyanne. It disproves the stigma surrounding individuals on the spectrum that they prefer to be alone and aren't interested in making friends. Furthermore, it promotes the importance of inclusion and acceptance since Shyanne is a verbal communicator and not on the autism spectrum. Although nothing could have completely prepared me for the life altering experience of raising a child on the autism spectrum, I was blessed with the installation of such family values which consisted of kindness, understanding, loyalty, patience, and unconditional love. I still live near my hometown of Buffalo, NY and work to help individuals with developmental disabilities find supports and services. I also volunteer as a board member of a great organization called Neurodiversity Network of Western New York. The mission of NNWNY is to promote acceptance and inclusion of the neurodivergent people through education, trainings, and community events.
