Hello, I am Judy Hurd, storyteller and author.Living in far-flung national parks from Alaska to Florida, Washington, DC to California where my ranger husband was stationed often left me with time on my hands. So, I started putting to paper the stories that chased around in my head and learning the ups and downs of the process. In 2005 I was privileged to be included in Gom Publishing’s Best of New Sci-Fi and Fantasy For 2004 with a story titled Threads in a Web, my first official publication. Which, by the way, is developing into a three-story series, same characters and same premise. Look for it in future.My husband and I raised one daughter we are quite proud of, a daughter who is not shy about the fact she was raised in national parks. We have lived and worked in more than a hand full of gorgeous and challenging environments. We finally settled in southern Oregon and built a home on the edge of the Cascades. We are not far from Crater Lake National Park, the deepest lake in the US, filling the collapsed volcano, Mount Mazama with clear, cold blue water. If you get the chance, visit. When we, Steve and I retired from the National Park Service, I took the next fledgling writer’s step and joined a writers’ organization (Willamette Writers) that led to getting on the internet (JudyHurd.com) to showcase my writing. That was satisfying for a while. More recently, I have a writer friend who in his off-handed way introduced me to self-publishing. With the guidance of Luminare Press (Eugene, OR), I have indie published three books; A Death Song for Yellow Wolf (2019), Where Magics Collide (2020), and Duke Hamlyn’s Murder (2022). I admit I am not a youngster with a long career ahead, but my writing has years of practice that produced a file of shorts and half a dozen finished and unfinished novels.
