Die ätherischen Öle aus getrocknetem und pulverisiertem Pflanzenmaterial wurden durch Hydrodestillation mit einem Gerät vom Typ Clevenger isoliert. In den drei ätherischen Ölen, die aus den Blüten, den Blättern und der ganzen Mentha-Pflanze isoliert wurden, konnten 55 Komponenten identifiziert und quantifiziert werden.
Der am häufigsten vorkommende Bestandteil in allen drei Ölen war Menthol mit 35,64%, 32,47% bzw. 52,53%.
Die antioxidative Aktivität des ätherischen Öls der gesamten Mentha-Pflanze wurde gegen ABTS-Radikale bestimmt. Die antimikrobielle Aktivität des aus der gesamten Mentha-Pflanze isolierten ätherischen Öls wurde gegen Escherichia coli und Candida albicans bestimmt.
