ANOTHER SOUTHSIDE is ample proof of his talents. Relegated to the dregs of duties, contrarian Detective Jake Thompson waits for retirement, avoiding official interaction, using a local coffee shop as his unofficial office.

But while part of him wants to be left alone, that’s rarely an option in “Another Southside”, where Jake winds up facing all manner of mayhem and a host of unbelievable denizens, made thoroughly believable by Staecker’s way with words. It’s Jake’s essence you’ll come to appreciate.

With the turning of a phrase and evocative description, Staecker brings Jake to life. If you’re from Chicago, you will undoubtedly relate.

But even if you can’t find the Windy City on a map, if you want a great read, this is it. And if you’re drawn to police drama, you’ll love it.

Del is also one of the very few writers who pens like a native, no matter what locale forms the backdrop of his stories Del writes like an insider as his characters take you along on an intriguing ride. You know the old joke, “that’s several hours I wish I had back”.
