Relationships can be complicated, even more so when they occur across parallel dimensions. Nick Reynolds learns this lesson firsthand when a chance encounter with a high-tech billionaire introduces Nick to an exclusive private club where members have access to a cross-dimensional portal.

The portal only provides Nick with access to one alternate dimension, one that is very similar to his own, but it’s that similarity that causes him problems. There’s a beautiful woman in Nick’s dimension who won’t give him the time of day, but that woman’s counterpart in the alternate dimension finds Nick handsome and charming.

Nick is initially very happy with this development, but the difficulties of pursuing a cross-dimensional romance become apparent very quickly. To complicate things further, Nick’s best friend Marta also finds love in the alternate dimension, which they both refer to as the Other Place.

Confusingly, Marta’s new romantic partner is Nick’s doppelganger in the Other Place. Nick and Marta go through alternating periods of delight and despondency as each of their romances suffer through ups and downs caused by living in one dimension while having a lover in another.

They’re both determined to pursue their relationships, and both eventually decide that they need to leave their home dimension and find a way to live in the Other Place. Complicating matters is the fact that they’re both frauds in the Other Place; their identities are owned by their identical counterparts.

It doesn’t help that the romantic duo has made a serious enemy in the Other Place; a local drug dealer named Bad Jack who wants revenge on Nick and Marta. He also wants to hurt them very badly.

Nick and Marta are both aware that success in each of their romantic relationships could spell disaster for their friendship. Help comes from an unexpected ally in the Other Place, but this ally needs help from his counterpart in Nick and Marta’s dimension to pursue his plan to help them succeed in love.

All that’s needed is some good fortune, a little subterfuge, and cooperation across dimensions. .
