Kurtis Michael Williams is serving a life sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections under the Interstate Compact Act. He was wrongfully convicted of murder in Florida in 1997, under a plea of no contest, and allowed to serve his sentence in Illinois to be closer to his daughter. He is divorced and the loving father of a beautiful daughter and has a deep-seated faith relationship to God and family. Kurtis has been incarcerated for 27 years and has a clemency petition pending. In addition to authoring “Poems from Within” (2023), he is completing a series of Sudoku word puzzle books, written out by hand and catering to topics he is passionate about. Future projects will include a complete plan and curriculum for a Restorative Justice program, offering hope for those incarcerated to plan for their reentry into society. He writes about his truths related to treasures he buried before incarceration and the suffering of life inside prison and on the outside, while exhibiting patriotic and family-oriented expressions we all feel. Kurtis expresses his passions about holidays, graduations, family events and hardships relating to every heartfelt event. He has cleverly grasped the reader’s mind to bring them into solace while understanding their plight as well as his own.
