ولدتُ فلم أدرك، ثم أدركتُ بغير علمٍ، ثم علمتُ أنني لن أَدرك! كنت في الرابعة إذ لاحت لي معالم الطبيعة، ونفذ نورها إلى عقلي، فكان الشعاع ساطعاً باهراً، كسجين عُتِم من الضوء سنين ثم أُضِيء له، أجل. .
إنه لشديد الوقوع على العين. فأنا حينذاك أتلمس وأشم وأرى حقاً وصدقاً وشعوراً، فجعلت سنيني تدرُج ، وفي مضيّها يخفت ذلك الشعاع رويداً رويداً، إلى أن صرتُ ألمس وأشم وأرى مَجَازاً لا حقيقة، هذا الإحساس قد ذهب وبقيَ الحس، فعلام السعي إذن؟ مذ كنت غِرًّا قرأت كتابك أيها العالَم، وفهمت كيف تسير، وكيف الناس عليك سائرون، عرفت أن الشابّ مصيره إلى زوجة، والزوجة مصيرها إلى ذريّة، والذريّة مصيرهم كآبائهم، وعلمتُ أنني أتعلمُ لكي أعمل، وأعملُ كي أعيش.
. إنما أنا حيٌ الآن بروحَيْن، روحٌ ذابلة ها هي أمامك أيها الشيخ، وروحٌ هي على آخر خط الزمن منتظرة أختها الذابلة أن تأتيَ إليها، حتى يخلق الله روحَيْن غيرَهما يتبعان حذوَ أثري، وهلمّ جرًّا.
