Dr. Peter Joseph Burke retired from the US Army in 1996 after serving with the 7th Infantry division (Light), the 25th Infantry Division (Light), the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), and the US Field Artillery Training Center, Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, He received his doctorate from Northcentral University in Education Leadership. He earned his BM in Horn Performance and MA in Teaching from Cameron University and received his Master of Music Education in Instrumental Conducting from the University of Oklahoma in May 2011. At Cameron University, he was an Active Member of the Zeta Tau Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi from 1997-2001, and served as Vice-President for the 2000-2001, and the 2010-2011 school years, and as President, 2011-2012. He performed in numerous performing ensembles, instrumentally, as well as vocally, including the Concert Band, Opera, the CU Jazz Ensemble and the “Pick-Axe” Band. While at the University of Oklahoma he performed in the Symphonic Band, the OU Hornsemble and was an Active Member of the Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi. He has also served as a conductor of the OU Hornsemble. As a composer, he had two movements of his Poem for Deanne read by the OU Orchestra. In 1996 Mr. Burke retired as an Army Bandsman, as a conductor and performer, and has performed in Thailand, Korea, Japan, Brunei, the Philippines, Australia and many other countries. Some of his notable performances include the funeral for the Challenger astronaut that died on launch, the Prince of Thailand’s birthday, visits from Heads of State, and the New York City Victory Parade after Operation Desert Storm. Mr. Burke has also shared the stage with performers such as Richard Todd, Jonny Highland, Frank Mantooth, Arthur Lipner, the Royal Thailand Army Band, the Band of Her Majesty’s Coldstream Guard, and Woody Herman. Mr. Burke has affiliations with ASCAP and Kappa Kappa Psi. His principal teachers include the United States Army Element School of Music, Dr. Glen Gillis, Dr. William Wakefield, Dr. Joy Nelson and Dr. Roland Barrett. Dr. Burke is a freelance researcher and a publishing author. His published works include Perceptions of Student-Veterans with PTSD and Availability of Support Services in Academic Life: A Qualitative Descriptive Analysis; and Discovering Listed PTSD Support on Campus in Higher Education: A Web Survey of Traditional Academic Institutions Home Pages.
