Amber Cooper is a Scottish romance author who lives in a wee flat in Edinburgh, Scotland, with a Scotsman and a Scotscat. When not writing, Amber can be found searching the internet for vintage furniture to upcycle, watching Eastenders (British soap where everyone is always shouting at each other), and going for walks whilst listening to her Spotify playlists and imagining dreamy scenes for her next novel.Interview with Amber CooperWhy do you write romance? What inspires you?I love writing romance because it’s so much fun to get involved in all the sweeping emotions and go on rollercoaster journeys with the characters and experience a happy ever after over and over again. Scottish romance is my choice because I grew up and live in Scotland so I feel I can create an authentic Scottish romance experience for readers. Also, I get to hang out with men in kilts this way. Where do you get your story ideas from?A combination of everyday issues and music. I love going for walks and listening to music that inspires story and character ideas. Often ideas will emerge when I am writing. No matter how much I try to plot, it often gets changed as I go along. I like to make things a bit escapist but grounded in reality at the same time. That’s my favourite type of romance.What romance genres do you enjoy yourself?I am a contemporary romance fan myself. Small town romance is a big yes for me and I do like a romance series with brothers, and, of course, I love to read romance set in my home country of Scotland, but I’m open to reading anything really. Give me all the genres and tropes. Apart maybe from dinosaur romance. What are you writing at the moment?There are seven books in the Butler’s whisky romance series, so I am focusing on those stories just now. I am always considering ideas for what might come after this series.
